A Step-by-Step Guide
Begin your journey by exploring employment opportunities within the agriculture and agri-food sectors in Canada. This process typically takes 1-2 months and involves researching potential employers and job openings that align with your skills and experience.
Once you secure a job offer from a Canadian employer, the next step is for the employer to apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) on your behalf. This process, which typically takes 3-6 months, assesses the impact of hiring a foreign worker on the Canadian labor market.
Upon approval of the LMIA, you can proceed to apply for a work permit to legally work in Canada. This application process usually takes 2-3 months and involves submitting required documentation, including your job offer and LMIA approval.
Once you receive your work permit, you can make arrangements to travel to Canada and commence employment with your designated employer in the agriculture or agri-food sector.
Over the course of one year, gain valuable work experience in your designated occupation within the agri-food sector. This experience is essential for eligibility to apply for permanent residency under the Agri-Food Pilot Program.
After completing one year (1,560 hours) of full-time, non-seasonal work, apply for permanent residence. Submit proof of work experience, employment, education, and language proficiency to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
The processing time for a permanent residence application is around 6 months. IRCC will review your application and may request additional documents. Once approved, you will receive your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and officially become a permanent resident of Canada.
